Sustainable Management of Salt Slag

The management of salt slag, a waste from the secondary aluminum industry, is associated with huge environmental concerns due to risk atmospheric pollution (emission toxic gases), groundwater contamination (high content that can percolate and cause an increase in salinity) soil unavailability (large extensions required for disposal). Therefore, development sustainable process its treatment recovery utmost importance. In this work, two-step valorization slag was developed rendered zeolite as main added-value product NaCl NH3 byproducts. First, hydrolyzed at 90 °C solid/water ratio 1/3. More than 90% ~90% ammonia were recovered. second step, completely transformed into NaP under mild hydrothermal conditions. exhibited specific surface area (17 m2 g?1), cation exchange capacity (2.12 meq g?1) zeta potential (?52 mV) values represent good characteristics use removal metal ions aqueous effluents. transformation be considered high contribution circular economy.
